Stevens Graduate Project Management Program Renews Accreditation with PMI
|
Stevens Institute of Technology is the only university in the tri-state area with PMI accreditation
Stevens Institute of Technology has once again achieved accreditation with the Project Management Institute (PMI). Stevens provides graduate education and professional development in project management.
One of only 18 universities with accreditation in the country, Stevens, through the Wesley J. Howe School of Technology Management, has offered project management education and research since 1986. Stevens’ graduate Project Management program was one of the first programs to be accredited when PMI began the accreditation process in 2003.
According to Dominic Lepore, program director of the Stevens Project Management program, “Renewing our accreditation continues Stevens' long tradition of supporting PMI's mission to develop globally-recognized standards and advance the state of project management knowledge."
Since its first project management class in 1986, Stevens has delivered more than 20,000 hours of project management education.
“The PMI accreditation provides an assurance that Stevens’ Project Management program meets comprehensive quality standards and can effectively prepare students for greater success in their career," said Lepore.
The Project Management program at Stevens has shown significant growth over the years. In addition to a four-course graduate certificate in Project Management, the Howe School is expanding its curriculum and launching the first Master’s of Science degree in Enterprise Project Management (EPM) in the country. This new degree is planned to launch in fall 2012 and couples project management and business with leadership skills and behaviors, raising the bar in project management education. In addition, project management professionals are able to pursue graduate degrees in the areas of Management, Information Systems and Telecommunications.
"We are extremely pleased to have our curriculum, faculty and student services recognized by the Project Management Institute, whose requirements are held as the highest standards in project management, said Linda M. Pittenger, associate dean for the Graduate Enterprise and distinguished professor of the Howe School. "This recognition by PMI reinforces that our project management programs deliver the excellence we strive to achieve for our students.”
The Howe School Project Management faculty has two current research grants from PMI and four books that have been published through PMI. The Stevens curriculum is driven by the latest research in project management.
With more than half a million members and credential holders in more than 185 countries, PMI is the world's leading association for project management professionals. PMI’s Global Accreditation Center (GAC) is an accrediting body that assures the quality of project management degree programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
